It's hard to believe we're nearing the halfway mark of the high school football regular season! Check out the 173 games lined up for Week 5.
This week, most schools return to region play, with 106 games featuring region vs. region matchups. Two teams will face non-TSSAA opponents, and only 12 teams have Week 5 as their open date.
Playoff Memories
Knoxville Catholic at Briarcrest: These two teams faced each other back-to-back in the 2002 and 2003 playoff semifinals. In 2002, Briarcrest defeated Knoxville Catholic 14-0. Knoxville Catholic got redemption in 2003 when they defeated Briarcrest 41-28.
Christian Brothers at Baylor: 2023 is the only time these two teams have faced each other since 2015. However, Christian Brothers defeated Baylor in the 1997 state championship, 22-19. In 2011, Baylor became victorious in the playoff semifinals after defeating Christian Brothers 31-28.
Father Ryan at MBA: In the 1997 state championship, Father Ryan defeated MBA 10-7. A year later, the two teams met again in the playoff semifinals where MBA won 19-3.
Davidson Academy at St.George’s: Davidson Academy defeated St.George’s in the 2005 playoff semifinals and 2006 state championship. However, in 2010, St.George’s claimed victory when they won 24-12 in the playoff semifinals.
McMinn Co. at Oak Ridge: Oak Ridge won 28-14 over McMinn Co. in the 1975 playoff semifinals.
