BOARD OF CONTROL MINUTES November 13, 2014 Murfreesboro, TN

1. Roll Call 2. Approved Minutes of Last Meeting 3. The Board voted to give the state office staff permission to conduct the draw for the State Wrestling Tournament. 4. Heard Review of the 2014 Regional Meetings 5. Heard Review of 2014 Fall Sports state tournament events in golf, volleyball, girls’ soccer, and cross country. 6. Staff updated the Board on Regional Basketball Sites for 2014-2015 and requested help from the Board in gathering the missing sites. 7. Approved TSSAA Membership Contracts for 2014-2015. There are now 414 member schools of TSSAA and 368 middle schools that are members of the TMSAA. 8. Voted to not allow schools to participate in posteason competition until any outstanding fines or membership dues are paid. 9. Heard Update from TSSAA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee 10. Terminology - Voted to remove the terminology of “Week 0.” Football will still have 11 weeks to play 10 games. What was referred to as “Week 0” will now be “Week 1.” 11. Classification Three schools had a 20% increase or decrease in enrollment that caused them to change classes. Westwood High School had a decrease of 23%, but chose to stay in their current classification instead of moving down. Millington Central had a decrease of 29% and chose to move down from DI, Class AAA District 14 to Division I, Class AA, District 15, Region 8. L&N Stem Academy had an increase of 32% and moved from Division I, Class A to Division I, Class AA District 3, Region 2. The Division I regional football alignments for the 2015 and 2016 season were approved by the TSSAA Board of Control on November 13, 2014. Only four schools were moved from the originally proposed region alignments. Those four schools moved were: Class 1A Oakdale from Region 2 to Region 1 Greenback from Region 1 to Region 2 Class 3A Alvin C. York Institute moved from Region 2 to Region 4 McNairy Central moved from Region 8 to Region 7 12. Voted to Approve Woodstock Middle/High School for TSSAA Membership Woodstock Middle/High School is a Shelby County School that has always been in the Middle School Association. This year they added 9th and 10th grade and plan to add 11th and 12th grade next year. Currently, they have 125 high school students. They will only compete at the junior varsity level this year. They plan to offer basketball, volleyball, baseball, track and field, girls’ and boys’ soccer, wrestling, softball, and football. 13. Took No Action on Oliver Springs High School’s Appeal Regarding Enrollment 14. Approved request from four schools in East Tennessee to compete in the East Tennessee Sectional Track Meet instead of Middle Tennessee. 15. Voted to Approve Fairview Christian Academy for TSSAA Membership FCA is a small Christian school in Athens with 25 students in grades 9 through 12. They are approved by the State Department of Education as a Category 2 school. FCA does not provide need-based financial aid to student-athletes. They plan to participate in DI basketball and volleyball and possibly to co-op in other sanctioned sports. FCA will be placed in DI, Class A, competing in District 3, Region 2. 16. Voted to Approve MNPS Virtual School for TSSAA Membership MNPS Virtual School is approved by the Tennessee Department of Education as a Category 1 school. Their current full-time enrollment is 140 students. If approved, MNPS Virtual School plans to request to form a cooperative program with McGavock High School. 17. Approved the request from Zion Christian Academy not to play a District Football Schedule for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. 18. Voted to Approve Grace Christian Academy, Franklin for TSSAA Membership Grace Christian Academy is licensed through the Tennessee Department of Education as a Category 2 school. It is accredited by AdvancEd. Grace Christian has a current enrollment of 130 students in grades 9-12. If approved, the school plans to participate in volleyball, cross country, football, girls’ soccer, wrestling, girls’ and boys’ basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer. Grace Christian Academy will be placed in DI, Class A, competing in District 11, Region 6 in volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball. They will compete in Division 1A, Region 4 in football and DI A-AA, District 11, Region 6 in cross country, girls’ soccer, and soccer. Grace will be in Region 3 for Individual Wrestling and Region 7 for Dual Wrestling.
