BOARD OF CONTROL MINUTES January 14, 2016 Hermitage, TN

  2. Approved Minutes of Last Meeting
  3. Approved the Financial Report of the 2015 Boys' and Girls' State Golf Tournaments
  4. Approved the Financial Report of the 2015 Girls' Volleyball Tournaments
  5. Approved the Financial Report of the 2015 Girls' Soccer Tournaments
  6. Approved the Financial Report of the 2015 State Cross Country Meet
  7. Approved the Financial Report of the 2015 Cheer and Dance Competition
  8. The Financial Report for the 2015 Football Playoffs has not been completed. It will be presented to the Board at the next meeting in March.
  9. Approved the 2017-18 TSSAA Calendar. The 2016-17 TSSAA Calendar was approved during the January 2015 meeting. The Board voted to change the times for all three Regional Meetings is November to be held at 10:00 a.m. (local time).
  10. The Board voted to instruct the state office to make the draw for the regional and state tennis tournaments.
  11. The Board reviewed the action of the Legislative Council meeting held on December 9, 2015.
  12. The Board was provided an updated regarding the Tennessee Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and reviewed the Minutes from the committee's meeting held on October 21, 2015.
  13. Discussed Soccer Post-Season Field Dimension Requirements and potential future proposal. Voted for the state office to inquire schools as to whether or not they would meet certain field dimension requirements.
  14. Bradley Lambert, TSSAA Technology Director, demonstrated a new feature on the TSSAA Portal for Board members.
  15. Denied the golf proposal from the Seven Schools in Clarksville-Montgomery County to allow schools with enough individual qualifiers in the state tournament to have a qualifying team score (2 girls or 4 boys) to participate in the team portion of the state tournament even if they did not win the regional championship.
  16. Discussed the Closing of Jackson Central Merry Academy of Medical Technology (JCM)
  17. Heard an Update on Girls' Soccer (Independent Game Participation)
  18. Approved the following addition to the Media Regulations: Media outlets and/or individuals whose primary purpose is to serve as a recruiting/scouting service, or college publications/websites that are following recruits will not be issued credentials. To be considered for a TSSAA media credential, internet organizations must be determined to be a legitimate news-gathering organization and meet the following criteria established by the TSSAA: 1. The site has demonstrated a history and reputation for covering sporting events involving TSSAA member schools on a timely basis. 2. Content on the site is original, objective, news-gathering in nature and has editorial oversight. Content must be updated on a regular basis in the form of stories, game stories and updates, comprehensive scores, standings, statistics or streaming. Photos, recruitment content, rankings and forums do not, in and of themselves, meet criteria for approving credentials. 3. Site is not a personal page or content and demographic audience is not a fan-based site of one school or a small number of schools.
  19. Board voted for the state office to notify schools that at its June meeting the will consider instructing the state office to set the districts and regions for classification.
