Logan Lott (TCA)
Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) sophomore Logan Lott received the NFHS Student-Athlete Award of Excellence from the TSSAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) for her quick thinking and decisive action at the D2-A West Region Cross Country Championships. Lott, a varsity runner for TCA, provided critical first aid to teammate Jackson Hawks, a freshman, who collapsed on the course.
During the boys' race, Hawks lost consciousness and stopped breathing. Lott, who was nearby, responded to a bystander's alert and immediately began chest compressions. Her actions restored Hawks' breathing before emergency medical personnel arrived. Meet director Max Paquette commended Lott's composure under pressure.
Hawks was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and later released. He is undergoing further testing to determine the cause of the incident. Hawks’ family expressed gratitude for Lott's swift and confident response in a critical situation.
After assisting her teammate, Lott competed in her own race, improving her personal record by 70 seconds and finishing 35th. In addition to cross country and track, Lott participates in varsity soccer, bike racing, and is involved in Bible study, Best Buddies, and student government.
Lott’s actions exemplify the positive impact student-athletes can have beyond athletic competition. Her courage and selflessness serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of sportsmanship and looking out for others in educational athletics. Students involved in school sports have a platform to demonstrate positive values and inspire their peers and community. Lott's actions set a standard for all student-athletes to emulate.
