Schools are now able to begin the membership process for the 2019-20 school year in the TSSAA Portal. This academic year will be the 95th for TSSAA and its member schools. There have been a few changes this year to further streamline this annual undertaking.
New this year, schools who participated in an approved co-op during the past school year will be able to renew the co-op using the membership statement form. Schools will not need to send in the letters of request if the cooperation will continue this school year. As long as both schools select the option to continue the existing program, it will automatically be approved on the Portal. Any new cooperative programs or changes must continue to be submitted in writing to our office.
In another change help manage postage costs, the two packets sent to schools in July/August will be combined into a single package. Cards, handbooks, calendars and membership certificates will be mailed together once the signed contract and membership dues have been received.
Schools wishing to receive their packet with ID cards prior to the first football game must ensure their contract is uploaded and their check is received in the TSSAA office by Monday, August 12, 2019.
Rules books will continue to be delivered digitally directly to coaches through the use of the NFHS Rules app. The app is free for smartphones and tablets through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. As part of membership, schools will receive one rules book subscription for head coaches in each of the following sports: football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, wrestling, track & field, baseball and softball.
Head coaches will need to sign into the Portal, click Resources then Sport Rules Books to request access to their digital book. Instructions are there to walk first-time users through the process of downloading the app and registering an account inside the app.
