Nick Moog

Anderson County High School senior Nick Moog, a familiar face on the football field, has netted another win – this time for his remarkable sportsmanship. The TSSAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) recently recognized Moog with the prestigious NFHS Student-Athlete Award of Excellence, a testament to his dedication both on and off the gridiron.

Moog, who recently signed to continue his football career at the University of the Cumberlands, has been a fixture in the Anderson County football community since his middle school days, participating in youth programs and serving as a ball boy. This deep-rooted commitment to his community shines through in his dedication to "Read Option Friday."

Established in 2015 by Moog’s brother Ryan, also an Anderson County football alumnus, "Read Option Friday" sees members of the high school football team dedicate their Friday lunch breaks to visiting the Clinch River Community School. What began as a simple act of reading with the students has blossomed into a powerful program focused on building relationships, fostering a love of literacy, and bridging connections between the schools.

Moog's leadership within "Read Option Friday" showcases the immense positive influence student-athletes can have within their communities. It transcends the wins and losses recorded on scoreboards, demonstrating that true victory lies in using one's platform to uplift others.

His commitment to service did not go unnoticed by the students at Clinch River. This year, they surprised Moog and the football players with a heartwarming gesture – a self-published children's book recounting their shared experiences during "Read Option Friday."

Nick Moog's dedication to both athletics and community service serves as a shining example for students across Anderson County and beyond. He embodies the true spirit of sportsmanship, proving that respect, empathy, and a commitment to giving back are victories worth celebrating. Let us all be inspired by Moog's example and strive to create a culture where athletic achievement goes hand-in-hand with compassion and community engagement.
