- Heard a review of the A.F. Bridges Sportsmanship Awards Program. The Board voted to allocate $27,000.00 to schools' athletic funds that receive the A.F. Bridges Award to honor a student-athlete at each of the 27 schools.
- Voted to continue to pay the $30 membership into the National Federation Coaches' Association for the state Coach of the Year winners for the NFHS Coaches Award Program.There are awards given for coaches of the year (male and female) from each state, section, and at the national level, as well as contributor of the year.
- Heard a report on Officials' Basketball Camps
- Approved Financial Aid for the 2017-18 School Year
- Heard an update on Regional Basketball Sites for the 2017-18 School Year
- Discussed the Administrators' Meetings Schedule for 2017-18
- Heard the Technology Update, highlighted by the launch of the TSSAAsports.com website.
- Heard an updated on the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee
- Board voted that member schools cannot participate against Knoxville Christian School in any sports sanctioned by TSSAA. Knoxville Christian School is not a member of TSSAA.
- Voted to approve the basketball coaches’ box may be extended to 28’ in high school. The box will remain 14’ in middle school.
- Approved River's Edge Christian Academy's request to change division to Division II with the understanding that they are a member only for the purpose to co-op with another member school. They do not currently offer any sports.
- Approved Bowie Reading & Learning Center's request to change divisions to Division II with the understanding that they are a member only for the purpose to co-op with another member school. They do not currently offer any sports.
- Approved Intrepid College Prep: Independence Academy High School’s request for TSSAA Membership. Intrepid College Prep: Independence Academy High School is located in Antioch. The school currently has 110 9th grade students, adding a grade each year. Plans are to play JV only this year. The school will be placed in Division I, Class A, District 7 in basketball, District 8 in volleyball, girls’ soccer, and soccer, and in the Middle Section in track and field.
- The Board reviewed the interpretation of the Award Rule. It was determined that the rule interpretation should be specifically applied to what schools are allowed to give student-athletes. The interpretation of the rule will not apply to outside organizations.
- Denied official’s appeal of suspension of registration
- Board approved penalty for violation of the Pitch Count Rule. 1st Time - Forfeit; $50 fine; coach suspended for one game at each level the violation occurred. 2nd Time - Forfeit; $250 fine; coach suspended for two games at each level the violation occurred. 3rd Time - Forfeit; $500 fine; coach suspended for four games at each level the violation occurred.
- Approved LEAD Southeast High School’s request for TSSAA Membership. LEAD Southeast High School is located in Nashville. They are a charter school that opened in 2013. This year the school will have 9th grade with an estimated 90 students. They plan to form a cooperative agreement with LEAD Academy. They do not plan to offer any sports at their school.
- Approved Memphis Rise Academy High School’s Request for TSSAA Membership. They have been members of TMSAA and are now adding 9th grade. Plans are to add a grade each year. Their anticipated enrollment this year is 112 students. Their desire is to have approximately 448 students in four years. If approved, they plan to offer basketball, cross country, soccer, track and field, and volleyball during the 2017-2018 school year. They will be placed in Division II, Class A, West Region, District 2 in basketball, volleyball, track and field, soccer, and cross country.
- Approved Southwest Early College High School’s request for TSSAA Membership. They are a charter school in Memphis with 105 9th grade students. Plans are to add a grade each year. They plan to offer cross country, volleyball, basketball (boys’ and girls’), track and field (boys’ and girls’), soccer, girls’ softball, and baseball during the 2017-2018 school year. They will be placed in Division I, Class A, District 16 in basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, and soccer, West (Small) in track and field, and Region 8 (Small) in cross country.
- Approved the addition of a Unified Track & Field event. This competition, which will initially begin as an Invitational Championship, is to be first implemented during the 2018 Spring Fling Championships. The decision marks the beginning of a partnership between TSSAA and Special Olympics Tennessee in Unified Sports.
- Board voted to approve the following changes for the State Bowling Tournaments.Removed the Baker Format at the state tournament and replaced it with the following:The draw for the state tournament will be released following the completion of all sectional matches. Teams which qualify for the state tournament who placed in the top two in the previous year’s state tournament, shall be drawn to the opposite sides of the bracket. The remaining teams shall be separated so that no team from the same region will be in the same side of the bracket. Changed regulation regarding Division I Individual Tournament to state: The top two averages in the district/region and the top 20 averages of competitors who did not automatically qualify from the combined districts/regions will qualify having bowled a minimum of 2/3 of the regular season games available.
- Board voted to elect Tommy Layne, Principal at Sequatchie County High School as Vice President of the TSSAA Board of Control.
