TSSAA hosted a meeting in Hermitage Wednesday of its Sports Medicine Advisory Committee to discuss a broad range of health and safety topics relevant to middle and high schools in Tennessee.
The Sports Medicine Advisory Committee was formed to provide the TSSAA executive staff and Board of Control with valuable insight regarding matters of player health and safety from the perspective of health professionals in our state.
The group reviewed and provided feedback concerning current TSSAA policies such as the heat policy and heat illness prevention, concussion policy and severe weather guidelines.
A draft version of a TSSAA letter to member schools was discussed that would remind schools of the opportunity for students participating in TennCare to receive no-cost sports physicals as a part of their annual checkup.
The upcoming addition of Lacrosse to the list of TSSAA-sanctioned sports was a topic of discussion, as well as a review of educational materials associated with opioid abuse prevention.
If a member school has any questions or concerns for a future advisory committee meeting, please contact Assistant Executive Director Mark Reeves at the TSSAA office.
