The New Balance High School Tennis Championship, presented by the USTA is a tournament for interscholastic tennis players across the country at Harvard University in Boston, MA from July 21-25, 2014.
There will be boys’ singles and girls’ singles events, and each will be a 64-player compass draw (meaning that all players will compete in a minimum of 4 matches). The nature of this type of draw is that players will “move toward their appropriate level,” so it will provide for some great levels-based competition.
Any player who has competed in interscholastic high school tennis during the 2013-14 academic school year is eligible to register for this national-level tennis tournament. The selection criteria will be based on the respective player rating* and a fair geographic distribution among states (as determined by the NBHSTC tournament committee).
Players will be housed in a nearby Boston University dormitory. There will be a host of spectacular, Boston-based activities planned throughout the week for the players.
The nearest airport is Logan International, a short car ride to Beren Tennis Center at Harvard University and/or the Boston University dormitory.
Champions of the New Balance High School Tennis Championship, presented by the USTA will be awarded WILDCARDS into an International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior event held in the US prior to the 2014 US Open Junior Championships.
* The NBHSTC tournament committee will utilize a nationally recognized rating system (UTR) – not USTA age-group national standings lists, because players from various age-groups are eligible – to guide in the determination of which players are selected to participate.
