MURFREESBORO- - -The winner of the Class AA Mr. Basketball Award was announced at the conclusion of the championship game today at Murphy Center. Class AA Mr. Basketball Award Braxton Blackwell from Christ Presbyterian Academy Braxton Blackwell from Christ Presbyterian Academy was named Mr. Basketball in Class AA for 2014. The other two finalists were Jordon Varnado from Haywood High School and LeGerald Vick from Douglass High School. Blackwell is a 6’8”, sophomore, forward. He is a two-year starter for the Lions who averages 19.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.2 blocks, and 2.7 steals per game. He shoots 68.8% from the field, 38.9% from three-point range, and 69.2% from the free-throw line. He has been selected to the All-District and the All-District Tournament teams twice. Braxton was named the Region MVP and was a member of the All-Tournament team at the state tournament last season as a freshman. He has scored over 1,000 in his first two years at CPA.
