The TSSAA Board of Control will conduct their first meeting of 2026 on Thursday, January 15 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Mt. Juliet (1980 Providence Parkway, Mt. Juliet, TN). The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. The Board will hear financial reports for the 2025 boys and girls golf, girls volleyball, girls soccer, cross country, cheer & dance, and football playoff events. Staff updates will include a recap of the NIAAA conference and a preview of the TIAAA conference, action taken at the December 11 Legislative Council meeting, an office building update, and the status of regional basketball sites. There will be a discussion regarding the options for collecting enrollments for the 2027-2029 classification period. and the Board will need to approve the 2027–28 calendar.
Page High School is requesting a change in their golf classification. In football, the Board will need to finalize the Division I playoff bracket formats (including whether to continue a new format and select a home-game distribution) and resolve how Division II football classifications will be determined to comply with bylaws.
Other key items include a recommendation to align officials’ fees with neighboring states, decisions on cooperative program exceptions for baseball and a three-school lacrosse co-op. The Board will discuss Webb School of Knoxville's proposal for an exception to the Sports Calendar for boys basketball during the NCAA live recruiting periods, which was tabled at the November meeting. This proposal advocates for allowing Tennessee boys' high school basketball teams to participate in both NCAA live recruiting periods.
The Board will also consider a proposal to seed Division I basketball like Division I soccer and will review several hardship requests.
