The Board of Control for the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association held its meeting on November 16, 2023 in Hermitage, Tennessee.
Key decisions were made regarding the future status of several schools and programs. The board agreed to remove the second year of restrictive probation for both Ridgeway High School and Memphis Rise Academy soccer programs. These programs were initially put on probation following an incident of unsportsmanlike conduct during a soccer match in April 2023. The Board voted to table the possible removal of the second year of restrictive probation that was placed on the Lipscomb Academy football program until the February meeting.
A request by Highland Rim Academy for an exception to the co-op rule for a baseball co-op with Upperman High School was denied by the board. Instead, the board voted to allow the academy to form a cooperative agreement with Cookeville in baseball.
In addition, the board approved a new member, the Knox County Virtual School. However, the membership request from the Newcomer International Center was denied.
The next meeting will tackle various items that were tabled, including the proposal from Cheatham County Central High School regarding cooperative agreements and the proposed change from Gallatin High School for the Region 6AAAA Basketball Tournament.
