The TSSAA Board of Control met on Monday, August 19 at the TSSAA office building in Hermitage.
An update regarding the process and timeline for collecting enrollment reports this fall, determining district/region placement, and handling classification appeals was presented to the Board. They voted to use the end of the year enrollment numbers from the State Department of Education (avg. of entire 2023-2024 school year) for the upcoming classification cycle. If a school's average enrollment for the month of September is different by 20% or greater, the number used for classification purposes will be the new September figure.
Action was taken to allow schools wishing to host one additional contest in baseball, softball, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, and girls’ flag football be allowed to do so, with the host of the game contributing $100 towards the construction of the new state office building. Each school will be allowed to play in up to two of these games per sport season.
The Board voted on how to allocate about $200,000 in excess revenue generated during the 2023-2024 fiscal year. This action includes a rebate to each school for 2023-24 membership dues, rebate to each school for 2023-24 golf fees, increase in awards to A.F. Bridges winners from $1000 to $1500, and supplying a new AED to 24 middle schools. Remaining excess funds will be committed to the Legacy Fund, which is earmarked for constructing the new TSSAA office building.
In other business, the Board reviewed and approved the financial reports for the sports of baseball, softball, soccer, track & field, and tennis and reviewed the audited financial statements from 2023-24. The proposed budget for the 2024-25 school year was approved as well.
