  4. 2014 Regional Meetings

Regional Meetings were held at Hardin Valley Academy, University School of Jackson, and Hillwood High School.  There were no proposals for changes in the TSSAA Bylaws on the agenda for consideration.  A summary of the attendance for the 2014 Regional Meetings as well as elections of Board of Control and Legislative Council members will be reviewed.

  5. New Business
    1. Proposed addition to Article I, Section 8 (Responsibility of the Principal) of the TSSAA Bylaws:

Section 8: Member schools are responsible for the conduct of coaches.  Public criticism of game officials by administrators or coaches will result in a fine of $500.00 assessed to the school.  Other non-monetary penalties may be assessed by the Executive Director based on the facts.

    2. Proposed addition to Article I, Section 6 (Cooperative Programs) of the TSSAA Bylaws:

For independent schools that co-op with other schools for football, basketball, baseball, and softball, if the school with their name on the uniform is an independent school, that school will be required to include the enrollment of the other school for classification purposes.

Rationale:  Enrollment is the foundation for classification; if an athletic team in one of the “major” sports listed above is comprised of athletes from more than one school, the enrollment numbers from both schools should be combined to determine the classification for that school.  A precedent is in place currently as all-boys and all-girls schools are required to have their enrollment doubled; we believe a team in the listed sports comprised of players from two schools should be required to include the enrollment of both schools for classification purposes.

Submitted by: Friendship Christian School, Battle Ground Academy, Davidson Academy, Ezell-Harding Christian School, Franklin Road Academy, Harding Academy, St. George’s Independent School, The King’s Academy, University School of Jackson

    3. Proposed change to Article IV, Section 8 (TMSAA Sports Calendar) of the TMSAA Bylaws:

For boys’ and girl’s Track & Field, there will be no restrictions to off-season practice.Rationale: At the high school level there are no restrictions to off-season practice in Track & Field.

    4. Proposed revisions to Article IV, Section 8 (TSSAA Sports Calendar) of the TSSAA Bylaws:

In an effort to create more consistency regarding the number of weeks of practice and regular season competition, the state office is proposing changes in the TSSAA Sports Calendar.  Most of the changes are editorial and would base important dates on the NFHS Standardized Calendar.  The staff will explain.
