  3. Drawing for Regional and State Volleyball Tournaments
    The Board has always given the state office permission to conduct the Regional and State Volleyball Tournament draw.  This item needs to be approved for the 2017-2018 school year.

  8. Sportsmanship – Review of the 2016-2017 School Year
    This completes the 26th year of the sportsmanship program and we continue to approach this area from many different aspects each year.  A full report is always given to the Board of Control by the staff in regard to the number of coaches ejected, disciplinary action, unsportsmanlike incidents investigated, etc.  This allows us to review our approach to this very critical area in all of our sports.  In addition, we will review the 22nd year of the A.F. Bridges Program.

  11. Regional Basketball Sites
    We are in the process of collecting information concerning Regional Basketball Tournament sites for the 2017-18 school year and will make a determination as to where each tournament will be held. We are asking Athletic Directors to check the TSSAA Portal to see if their site has been listed and update the portal if their Region has not been approved. An alternate site should also be submitted for approval. We will finalize all sites and present this information to the Board during the August meeting.

  16. DII Update
    The Board approved all of the DII post season tournament brackets during their last meeting with the exception of individual tennis and golf.  An update regarding these two sports will be presented.
  17. TMSAA Championship Events Report
    The TMSAA held state championships in Cross Country and Track and Field during the 2016-17 school year. A full report will be given to the Board.
  18. Financial Report of the 2017 State Bowling Tournament
  19. Division II State Bowling Tournament Bids
    This proposal is regarding the number of bids each region receives to the State Bowling Tournament in Division II.  Matthew Gillespie will bring this information to the Board.
  20. Power Center Academy Requests to Continue its Cooperative Agreement with Lausanne Collegiate School (Scheduled for 1:30 – Wednesday)
    During the March meeting, the Legislative Council voted to change Article I, Section 6 (Cooperative Programs) of the TSSAA Bylaws to only allow Division I schools to co-op with other Division I schools and to only allow Division II schools to co-op with other Division II schools.  PCA requests permission to continue its current cooperative program with Lausanne.
  21. Mercy Rule Proposal for TSSAA Girls’ Soccer/Soccer
    The TSSAA staff has been working with its Soccer Advisory Committee to develop a mercy rule which will terminate a game once a goal differential is reached.
  22. Official Fee Schedule
    The Board of Control adopted a four year “Official Fee Schedule.” This schedule ends at the conclusion of the 2017-18 school year.  The proposed schedule for the following four year cycle will be presented.
  23. Bluff City High School Requests TSSAA Membership
    Bluff City High School is requesting membership.  The school will open in 2017-2018 as a Category I public school in Memphis.  The anticipated enrollment is 120-165 students in grade 9 only.  Plans are to add a grade each year.  If approved, they plan to participate in baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, and track and field at the varsity level in District 16, Class A and the Small Division in track and field.  They will also participate in District 16, Class A in JV basketball and Class 1A, Region 8 in JV football.
  24. Clinton High School Appeals Disciplinary Action (Scheduled for 1:45 Wednesday)
    Clinton High School is appealing disciplinary action.  The school’s football program was disciplined for an off-season practice violation when a student who was not enrolled and in attendance at the school was allowed to play in a spring scrimmage and practice with the team.  Additionally, in accordance with the Recruiting Rule, the student-athlete in question was ruled ineligible to participate at Clinton High School for a minimum of one school year.  The administration wishes to appeal on behalf of the student-athlete.
  25. Golf Format for Division I And Division II A (Scheduled for 2:00 Wednesday)
    Alcoa High School is submitting a proposal regarding the golf format for Division I.  The staff will also bring information to the Board regarding the format for Division II, Class A.
  26. Girls’ Wrestling Weight Classes
    Proposal to add a weight class to Girls’ Wrestling.

  28. Girls’ Volleyball State Championships
    Our 2017-2018 Girls’ Volleyball State Championships were originally scheduled to be played on October 18th-20th at MTSU.  We were informed that ESPN picked up the MTSU home football contest on Friday, October 20th.  As a result, we need to move our championships to October 17th-19th.  Trina Melton has been working with MTSU, and they have agreed to accommodate us.
  29. Region 7A Requests Exception to Region Basketball Format
    Region 7A schools are requesting to move the start date of their 2018 Region Basketball Tournament ahead by one day. Both districts have met and voted in favor of the proposed schedule.
  30. Division I Bowling Format (State Tournament)
    The staff will make recommendations we feel will improve the quality of the tournament.
  31. Gateway University Requests TSSAA Membership
    Gateway University, which is a new secondary charter school in Memphis under the Shelby County Board of Education, is requesting to join TSSAA.  In 2017-2018, they plan to open with the 9th grade and add a grade each year.  Their projected enrollment is 150 9th graders for the 2017-2018 school year.  If approved, they will participate in Division I, District 15 or 16 A in basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer; District 16 (small) in track and field, cross country, golf, and tennis; and District 18 in bowling.  They would like to seek a cooperative agreement in football.
  32. Proposed Change to Pitch Count Policy
    Gene Menees will explain the proposed revision to the current Pitch Count Policy.
