GUIDELINES FOR TEAMS ENTERING THE TSSAA DIVISION I STATE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

  1. The sectional winners shall advance to the central tournament site, May 20-23, at the Murfreesboro Sports Complex and McKnight Fields in Murfreesboro, TN.

    Teams participating in the state tournament will be able to pick up their team packets from 12:00 PM CST - 6:00 PM CST on Monday, May 19 at the BlueCross SpringFling Headquarters. The BlueCross SpringFling Headquarters will be located at the Kennon Sports Hall of Fame Building on the campus of MTSU. The Kennon Sports Hall of Fame Building is located behind Murphy Center and can be accessed through the Greenland Drive Parking Lot. After 6:00 PM CST on Monday, May 19, team packets must be picked up the gate of where the team's first game is to be played. The team packets contain credentials for players, managers, coaches, and the team party which will allow them into all events at the BlueCross SpringFling.

  2. Please obtain a copy of the bracket (Class A (HTML, PDF), Class AA (HTML, PDF), Class AAA (HTML, PDF)) for the state tournament. The fields and game times are listed on the bracket. If more than one game is listed on a field, it will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the preceding game.

  3. In the state softball tournament, the umpires shall be assigned by the state office.

  4. There will be signs posted directing team buses where to park once they arrive at the Murfreesboro Sports Complex and McKnight Fields. Tournament squads are limited to a maximum of 18 players. Each team will receive 22 passes (18 participant passes for players, 2 participant passes for student managers, and 2 coaches/administrators passes for adults). Passes are for coaches, players, managers and other members of the varsity team party. Coaches should make preliminary plans for who will receive the designated passes. The team party (coaches, players, and managers) must have passes displayed or they will be charged admission. Please make your fans aware they will be charged $5 per day for parking.

  5. NO COOLERS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE PARK UNLESS IT IS NEEDED FOR MEDICAL REASONS (EX. INSULIN).
  6. NO PRACTICE OR WARM-UPS WILL BE ALLOWED BEHIND THE PLAYING FIELDS. TEAMS PLAYING ON STARPLEX #1, #2, #3, AND #4 MUST WARM-UP ON SPORTSCOM FIELD #5. TEAMS PLAYING ON MCKNIGHT #1 AND #3 MUST WARM-UP ON MCKNIGHT FIELD #2 OR #4. BATTING PRACTICE WITH WHIFFLE BALLS WILL BE THE ONLY BATTING PRACTICE ALLOWED AT THE GAME SITE.
  7. The top team in the bracket will sit in the first base dugout; the bottom team will sit in the third base dugout. Upon arrival at the tournament site, there will be a coin toss conducted by the tournament director or the game umpire to determine the home and visiting team for each game. There will be a 10 minute warm-up period for throwing in the outfield area prior to teams being instructed to take infield. The visiting team will take infield 20 minutes prior to game time for 10 minutes. The home team will then take infield for 10 minutes. We will then have the pregame conference and final field preparations (no warm-up in live ball territory area during the pregame conference).

  8. Coaches should have their line-up written out and ready to be given to the scorer (press box), opposing coach, and umpire during the pregame conference following infield.

  9. Video taping or filming is permitted as long as the taping or filming is for private use or use by the two schools involved and not for public or commercial use. Video taping or filming must be done from the individual's seat. Individuals will not be allowed to use tripods. A school taping or filming its own game may use a tripod. A school will not be allowed to tape or film a game unless its team is involved in the game. All taping or filming by a school may be approved by the local Game Director, and the Game Director shall assign space, when available, from which to tape or film.

  10. There will be 7 sessions of the softball tournament and 8 if necessary. Tickets are $7 per session.

  11. By mutual agreement of the opposing coaches and the umpire-in-chief, any remaining play may be shortened at any time or the game terminated.

  12. In tournament play, a suspended game shall be continued from the point of suspension.
