LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL MINUTES

March 21, 2003

Murfreesboro, Tennessee

  1. Re-elected Billy Joe Evans as President of the Legislative Council; re-elected Ed Foster as Vice President of the Legislative Council.

  2. Voted to approve the recommendation of the TMSAA concerning the Sports Calendar, as follows: Football practice may begin the Monday of the week of August 1, or four weeks prior to the first contest, whichever is later. Basketball practice may begin the Monday of the week of November 1, or four weeks prior to the first contest, whichever is later.

  3. Voted to take no action on the proposal from East Ridge High School for a change in the Sports Calendar to change volleyball from 45 matches with a maximum of four tournaments, with each tournament counting five matches, to 35 matches with a maximum of four tournaments with each tournament counting three matches.

  4. Heard a report on No Child Left Behind Legislation

  5. Heard an update from the staff on classification possibilities for the upcoming classification period, beginning with the 2005-2006 school year.
