6. Sectional Basketball Tournaments
At the January Board of Control meeting the Board voted to approve and implement sectional tournaments for the 1998-99 school year with the state office to generate a formula on dispersal of the tournament revenues and select sites and report back to the Board in June. The staff will present the plan for sites for 1998-99 sectional tournaments and a formula for the dispersal of funds at the March Board of Control meeting.
The recommendation of the staff is for final action and plans for 1999 be made at this meeting. The reason is that schools will be setting schedules for 1998-99 in the spring; therefore, it is very critical that all schools know whether we will be in sectional tournaments and the dates for district, regional, and sectional tournaments.

We have received a bid from the Greater Chattanooga Sports and Events Committee to host the 1998 Girls State Soccer Tournaments on November 5-8, 1998 at W. Max Finley Stadium/Gordon L. Davenport Field. The proposal will be presented to the Board of Control by the staff.
9. Exception Requested to the Spring Practice Rule in Football
The staff will be holding a football officiating camp in the spring in order to begin a camp program in football similar to the basketball officiating camp program. The camp will be set up with our staff administering all scrimmage situations, game situations, etc. for the purpose of instructing officials. We are requesting an exception to the spring practice rule in football to allow the following schools to have an additional day and additional scrimmages: Springfield, Jo Byrns, East Robertson, and Greenbrier. A full explanation will be presented by the staff.
