The Board of Control, at its March meeting, changed the manner in which regional basketball tournament sites will be selected, beginning with the 2006-2007 season. All regions are to meet and make a recommendation to the state office of their sites for 2007 and, in some cases, 2008. These sites would be based on geography, seating capacity of the gymnasium, parking, access to interstates and major highways, etc. This recommendation was to be sent to the state office by the June Board meeting. In addition, the format for regional basketball tournaments was changed to the following:

Friday: All girls' quarterfinals with #1's and #2's of each district hosting the #4's and #3's of the other district.
Saturday: All boys' quarterfinals with #1's and #2's of each district hosting the #4's and #3's of the other district

    Thursday: Boys' Championship (7:00)
  15. Classification Changes for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009

As the Board is aware, the enrollments for all schools were taken in January of 2006 to compare with the enrollments of 2004, which set classification for 2005 through 2009. Any school with a 20% change in enrollment that moves the school into a different classification is then changed. It is the responsibility of the Board, at this meeting, to place all of the schools that have been affected in new districts and regions in their new classification.

In Division I, the schools that have been affected are as follows:

    Westside - 2A to 1A football
    Jackson Christian - 1A to 2A football
East Literature Magnet - A to AA in basketball, baseball, softball
Liberty Magnet - AA to AAA in basketball, baseball, softball; 3A to 4A in football

In addition, the following new schools or schools adding football must also be placed in districts and regions:

Stone Memorial High School in Crossville - AA in basketball, baseball, softball; 3A in football
Middle Tennessee Christian School (addition of football) - 1A
Community High School (addition of football) - 1A
Arlington High School (addition of football) - 5A

The Board will need to place all of these schools in districts and regions and set the district and regional alignment in all classifications for the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 school years.

In Division II, the following schools have been affected:

St. Benedict and Pope John Paul II have been moved from AA to AAA in football and Ensworth will begin playing football with the 2007-2008 playoff series. Rossville Christian Academy is a new school and will be in Class A. This situation in Division II is much different, because of the small numbers in Division II. The movement of Pope John Paul II and St. Benedict create 10 schools in Class AAA, five schools in Class AA, and 11 schools in Class A. The Division II Committee has met and reviewed these changes and what will take place in Division II. The Division II Committee will meet on August 2, 2006 to look at this situation and will make a recommendation to the Board of Control for changes that would occur in Division II at its August meeting.
