Contract Bids for Spring Fling, Football, and Basketball The TSSAA Board of Control, at its January 8, 2004 meeting, voted that the decision concerning the Spring Fling for 2006, 2007, and 2008 would be made at the June 2004 meeting; that the decision concerning the 2008 and 2009 State Basketball Tournament would be made in June 2005; and that the decision concerning the Division I and Division II State Football Championships would be made at the January 13, 2005 Board meeting.

The bid for the Spring Fling to begin in 2006 has not been finalized. The Spring Fling will return to Memphis/Shelby County for the 2005 Spring Fling. The TSSAA staff will provide an update on the situations involving the bid process for Spring Fling.

The state office has informed all potential basketball bidders that the basic information for them on bidding for the TSSAA State Basketball Tournaments beginning in 2008 will be sent to them following this Board meeting. Since the Board of Control will finalize the State Basketball Tournament format at the January meeting, the state office will follow-up with the bid process, as directed by the TSSAA Board of Control. There is a massive amount of coordination between TSSAA, the Chamber of Commerce, and the local tourism and sports committees in regard to facilities, hotel rooms, meetings, and the securing of necessary venues for all the functions that accompany the State Basketball Tournaments.

The Board of Control has received bids for the football state championship games. The bids come from Chattanooga, Murfreesboro, and Nashville. The Chattanooga proposal is for both Division I and Division II, with Division II championships being played in alternating years on the 13th and 14th weekends of the season. The Murfreesboro bid is for either Division I or both Division I and Division II, with Division II being played on the 13th weekend each year.
