This item was brought to the Board of Control at the request of the Division II Committee during our June meeting. It was tabled until the August meeting in order to give the state office staff an opportunity to meet with the TACA Track Committee and look at the possibility of adding another class during the State Track Meet.

- Bids for the 2009 and 2010 BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Spring Fling
Bids to host the 2009 and 2010 BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Spring Fling were due in the state office by July 13, 2009. The information was sent to every city that expressed interest. These cities included Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro, Cookeville, Knoxville, and Johnson City. Two cities submitted bids to host the championships. They were Chattanooga and Murfreesboro.
Representatives from each of these cities will be given an opportunity to discuss any parts of their proposal and answer any questions the Board may want to ask.

- TSSAA/Baptist Sports Medicine Initiative
We are very excited to announce that TSSAA/Baptist Sports Medicine will be kicking off a sports medicine initiative beginning with the 2009-2010 school year. A Sports Medicine Advisory Committee consisting of medical professionals throughout the state of Tennessee is being formed. One of their primary objectives will be to advise administrators, coaches, parents, and student-athletes on critical issues related to participation in athletics.

- Change in Softball Pitching Distance
The NFHS Softball Rules Committee has changed the pitching distance from 40 feet to 43 feet beginning with the 2010-2011 school year. By state adoption, the distance can be changed to 43 feet beginning with the 2009-2010 school year. We have been in touch with several surrounding states and those in Section 3 concerning their plans.
A survey was sent to all softball coaches asking for their input. We will share the results of the survey with the Board.

- Matthew Gillespie has been selected by the National Federation Board of Directors to serve a four-year term as Chairperson of the National Records Committee.
