Highlights of Board of Control Meeting

January 14, 1999

1. Reviewed the results of regional meetings and minutes for December 2, 1998 Legislative Council meeting.

2. Approved membership applications for the 1999 calendar year.

3. Approved the Financial Report of the 1998 Boys and Girls State Golf Tournaments.

4. Approved the Financial Report of the 1998 Boys and Girls State Cross Country Meet.

5. Approved the Financial Report of the 1998 Cheerleading Competition.

6. Completed the 1999-2000 Calendar.

7. Permission was granted to the state office to make the drawing for the regional and state tennis tournaments.

8. Approved Pigeon Forge High School’s request for membership in TSSAA beginning with the 1999-2000 school year.

9. Denied Alcoa High School’s appeal of its classification in basketball, baseball, and softball for the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 school years.

10. Denied University School of Nashville’s request to eliminate rally scoring in girls’ volleyball and return to standard format scoring in the tournament series.

11. Approved a request made by Division II schools to change the format of football playoffs for class A and AA.

12. Denied Oak Ridge High School’s request for a change in girls’ soccer and soccer to qualify regional winner and runner-up to sectional play.

13. Approved a proposal from North Greene High School to allow schools to host football jamborees one week earlier than the date as set forth in the current calendar.

14. Voted to sign a five-year contract with the Nashville Area Junior Chamber of Commerce for the football championships.

15. Approved a proposal to enter a contract with Host-USA regarding future marketing and hosting of TSSAA events.

16. Denied a proposal in regard to the listing of officials who have been suspended or given other disciplinary action.

17. In executive session, voted to continue with the $10,000 deductible catastrophic insurance policy for student athletes of member schools.

18. Voted to deny the request of the Greater Chattanooga Sports Committee to host football semi-finals in all five classifications.

19. Eliminated the required meeting for schools participating in the boys’ and girls’ basketball state tournament and completed the draw for the 1999 basketball tournament.

20. In executive session, denied the hardship appeal of Marcus Williams from Clarkrange High School.
