BOARD OF CONTROL MINUTES
March 20, 2003
Murfreesboro, Tennessee
- Re-elected Mike Reed as Board of Control President; re-elected Fred Kessler as Board of Control Vice President.
- Approved Financial Report of the 2002 Football Playoffs.
- Approved Financial Report of the 2003 Bowling Tournament Series.
- Voted to provide same basic catastrophic insurance for all member school for 2003-2004 school year.
- Heard a report on 2002 Hall of Champion games, which provided $59,280.70 to the Hall of Champions fund.
- Voted to approve NFHS volleyball rules changes, effective with the 2003-2004 season, as follows:
a. All matches shall be best 3-of-5 games
b. Games shall be played to 25 points (no cap), and the 5th and deciding game shall be played to 15 points (no cap).
c. The let serve be allowed, and play shall continue provided net contact is entirely within the net antennas.
d. Each team shall be allowed two time-outs per game, with a total of 10 time-outs if five games are played.
- Approved the volleyball proposal from East Ridge, as follows:
a. A team, during the regular season, may play no more than two matches per day.
b. In the case of invitational tournaments, the tournament director will have the option of modifying play the best 2-out-of-3 games using rally scoring to 25 points and 15 points in the 3rd game. The net serve with be used.
- Approved David Brainerd Christian School for membership in TSSAA, effective with the 2003-2004 school year.
- Approved Margolin Hebrew Academy/Feinstone Yeshina of the South, effective with the 2003-2004 school year, pending SACS approval.
- Approved the use of the optic yellow softball for State Tournament play, beginning with the 2004 Spring Fling.
- Awarded the following ball contracts, beginning with the 2004-2005 school year:
a. Mikasa for volleyball and soccer
b. Wilson for football, basketball, and baseball
c. Worth for softball
- Requested staff to research concerns regarding tournament and playoff sites and report back to the Board at the June meeting with recommendations for minimum requirements to host tournament and playoff games in all sports.
