BOARD OF CONTROL MINUTES
June 8-10, 2004
Paris Landing State Park

  1. Approved Minutes of Last Meeting
  2. Approved the state office to make the draw for Regional and State Volleyball Tournaments
  3. Approved the Financial Report of the 2003-2004 State Basketball Tournaments
  4. Approved the Financial Report of the 2003-2004 Wrestling Tournament Series
  5. Heard the Report of the 2004 Athletic Directors Conference. Approved the financial report of the 2004 Athletic Directors Conference. Approved the financial report of the 2004 Cheer Coaches Conference.
  6. Heard the Report of the District and Regional Coordinators
  7. Heard Review of Sportsmanship for the 2003-2004 School Year
  8. Heard the Report of the State Track Committee and approved its proposal to change the Division I A/AA sectionals from four to three. The three sectionals will be East, Middle, and West. The top two from each sectional plus the next best two performances from all combined sectionals will qualify for the state track meet.
  9. Heard the Report of the Student Services Program
  10. Approved Membership Request for College Heights Christian Academy in TSSAA effective with the 2004-05 school year.
  11. Approved Membership Request for Ensworth School in TSSAA effective with the 2004-05 school year.
  12. Approved Membership Request for Webb School of Bell Buckle in TSSAA effective with the 2004-05 school year. The Board voted to waive the year of affiliate membership for Webb School of Bell Buckle, since the last year that Webb School of Bell Buckle was a member of TSSAA was 1986.
  13. Approved Membership Request for Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville effective with the 2004-05 school year.
  14. Approved Membership Request for Knoxville Christian School effective with the 2004-05 school year.
  15. Voted to table Minimum Standards to Host District Volleyball Tournaments until March Board of Control Meeting.
  16. Voted to change the State Volleyball Tournament format back to pool play beginning with the 2004 State Volleyball Tournament.
  17. The board approved to set the fees for tri-matches in volleyball, which are 2-out-of-3. A fee for one official in a tri-match of $105.00, and if two officials are used, then the fee would be $90.00 for each official for all three matches.
  18. Voted to table proposals for 2006-2009 Spring Fling until more information is provided.
  19. Heard the Technology Report
  20. Classification

  1. Voted to keep the current classification plan for basketball, baseball, and softball in Division I at 3 classes.
  2. Voted to keep the current classification plan for cross country, golf, volleyball, girls' soccer, track, tennis, and soccer in Division I at 2 classes (A/AA and AAA).
  3. Voted to keep the current classification plan for football in Division I at 5 classes.
  4. Approved a proposal from the State Wrestling Committee for the wrestling dual meet in Division I: 2 classes (A/AA and AAA). A/AA will bring four teams to the State Dual Meet and AAA will bring eight teams.
  5. Approved classification plan for bowling in Division I: 1 class.
  6. Voted to table the request by the Division II Committee for a 2-class plan for basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, girls' soccer, and soccer and the present 3-class plan for football that they have been using until the August Board of Control meeting.
  1. Approved Umpires' Fees for 3-man crews in Baseball and Softball if the school chooses to use 3-man crews, as follows: Softball - Regular season single game $40 per person; Regular season doubleheader $55 per person; District tournament, Regional, Semi's, and Finals $40 per person plus mileage; Sectional and State $45 per person plus mileage. Baseball- Regular season single game $50 per person; Regular season doubleheader $65 per person; District tournament, Regional, Semi's, and Finals $50 per person plus mileage; Sectional and State $55 per person plus mileage.
  2. Heard the Division II Financial Aid Report
  3. Denied the recommendation of the State Wrestling Committee to expand the number of teams in the Division I State Dual Meet from eight to 16 and move to a single elimination format.
  4. Voted to change the fee to schools for non-faculty coaches to $50.00 per coach and remove the maximum charge of $125.00 per school.
  5. Voted to change Section I, G in the bowling regulations to state:

    Warm Up/Practice is allowed 5-10 minutes prior to the start of competition. Lineups must be exchanged prior to each game simultaneously.
  6. Approved the corrected 2003 Golf Financial Report.
