BOARD OF CONTROL
Hermitage, Tennessee
January 13, 2000

  1. Roll Call
  1. Minutes of previous meeting approved.
  1. Approved membership applications for the 2000 calendar year and gave the Executive Director authority to follow up with schools that haven’t paid. Dues should be paid by February 1 or schools cannot participate in 2000 tournament series. An exception will be made for Carver High School due to extenuating circumstances.
  1. Approved the financial report of the 1999 boys and girls state golf tournaments.
  1. Approved the financial report of the 1999 volleyball tournaments.
  1. Approved the financial report of the 1999 girls soccer tournaments.
  1. Approved the financial report of the 1999 state cross-country meets.
  1. Approved the financial report of the 1999 cheerleading competition.
  1. Discussed the financial report of the 1999 football playoffs. Final report will be available at March meeting.
  1. 2000-2001 TSSAA calendar adopted as proposed except the 2000 Volleyball state tournament set for Wednesday through Friday (Oct. 25-27) compared to past tournaments that were held on Thursday through Saturdays. Because of possible changes with the Division II football playoff format, that portion of the calendar will be presented to the Board in the March meeting.
  1. Voted to instruct state office to make the draw for regional and state tennis tournaments.
  1. Approved the proposal to amend the state volleyball tournament format. The new format advances all teams from pool play into an eight-team single elimination format. The places determined by pool play will be used for seeding purposes only in the eight-team single elimination tournament. The new format does not extend the tournament any more days. It only extends the tournament with four additional matches.
  1. Voted unanimously to move the TSSAA State Football Championships to Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro for three years with an option of five.
  1. Update on work with Host USA.
  1. Internet and web site changes.
  1. Approved a three-year agreement with the Chattanooga Sports and Events Committee for the Girls State Soccer Tournaments.
  1. Board was given an update on pending litigation.
  1. Board was updated on catastrophic insurance. Asked for the staff to send a letter with a questionnaire to schools concerning to fund increasing catastrophic insurance premiums. More information will be provided at the March meeting.
  1. Viewed and discussed the home school committee report.
  1. Had preliminary discussion regarding re-classification.
  1. Discussed regional basketball tournament sites.
