Division I Class AAA State Girls Soccer Tournament at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga

Brentwood defeats Houston 3-2

CHATTANOOGA - Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association crowned its third and final champion today. Brentwood defeated Houston 3-2 in the AAA Finals.

Brentwood started out strong in the first half and scored a quick goal by Jennifer Spino to put them ahead of Houston. Houston never gave up in the first half and with 5 minutes left in the half Allison Ashby of Houston put the ball in the net. Brentwood answered back by scoring in the 38th minute of play from a free kick.

During the second half Jennifer Spino of Brentwood scored again to place Brentwood two goals ahead of Houston. The game was not over because Houston fought back and scored a penalty kick in the 77th minute.

Despite Houston's efforts and attacks on goal it was unable to catch up the early lead established by Brentwood.

Brentwood defeats Soddy Daisy 2-0 Houston defeats Bearden in OT 2-1
CHATTANOOGA -Brentwood defeated Soddy Daisy in the first Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association AAA Semifinal Girls State Soccer game 2-0.

During the first half, the game remained scoreless until the 39th minute when Lauren Hensley headed the ball into the net from Jennifer Spino’s powerful pass.

Soddy Daisy came out strong in the second half but was unable to beat Brentwood’s offensive power. Claire Campbell scored the final goal for

Brentwood. Brentwood advances to the AAA finals and will play the winner of the Houston/Bearden game.

The second semifinal game for the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association AAA Girls State Soccer Tournament was brutal for both teams.

Houston finally clinched the 2-1 victory in overtime. Bearden started strong in the first half with a goal by Sarah Stroud assisted by Sarah Welsh. Houston answered back with a goal by Allison Ashby in the 38th minute of play.

During the second half both teams worked to clinch the championship, but had a difficult time finishing the opportunities.

Finally in the 89th minute Houston kicked a ball into the goal from a free kick outside the penalty box.

Houston will face Brentwood in the AAA finals tomorrow in Chattanooga.
