Jennifer Davis of Seymour Leads by One Stroke After Day One;
Christian Academy of Knoxville Leads by Six Strokes Over Upperman

CHAPEL HILL - - - Jennifer Davis of Seymour High School shot a 74 (35-39) to take a one-stroke lead after day one at the A-AA state golf tournament at Henry Horton State Park. Davis, a sophomore, was runner-up at last year's tournament, finishing two strokes behind Elizabeth Dotson of David Lipscomb. Lexington's Grace Holmes shot a 75 (39-36) to finish the day's competition one stroke behind Davis.

In team competition, Christian Academy of Knoxville was led by Anna Claire Daniels' score of 84 (44-40). She combined with freshman teammate Mary Orr to give CAK a first day team score of 174. Upperman's Amanda Austin and Kayla Stewart each shot a 90 to put them just six strokes behind CAK after day one.

Audra Williams of Harpeth High School shot a 78 (39-39) to finish tied for fourth place after the first day of competition. She finished tied for fourth at last year's tournament with Grace Holmes.

After shooting a 78 (37-41) to finish four strokes off the lead and tied for third place, Mookie Janyasak of Franklin Road Academy was disqualified for a scorecard violation. Janyasak finished third at last year's state tournament.

University School of Jackson is eight strokes behind CAK with a 182. Haywood is right behind USJ with a 183. University School of Johnson City also posted a first day team total of 184.

Davidson Academy's Jamey Dillard shot a 79 (38-41) to finish day one five strokes off the lead. Dillard led Davidson Academy to their sixth straight team title last year, but but their streak ended before the tournament started. They failed to qualify past the region tournament as a team.

Elizabeth Dotson, a sophomore at David Lipscomb and the defending A-AA state champion, shot a 81 (39-42) to put her seven strokes behind Jennifer Davis. Dotson shot a 149 (72-77) to win the A-AA girls golf championship at Montgomery Bell State Park last year.

Goodpasture Leads Lenoir City By One Stroke
Hume-Fogg's Jerry Maynor Has One-Stroke Lead

CHAPEL HILL - - - Jerry Maynor of Hume-Fogg shot a 73 (37-36) to take a one-stroke lead after the first day of competition at Henry Horton State Park. Tyler Qualls of Perry County, Jim Youngblood of Portland, Seth Hawn of McMinn Central, Brandon Burris of Goodpasture, and Matt Mincer of Christian Academy of Knoxville all shot 74's to finish tied for second. This is very similar to last year's final standings where seven player's finished tied for second.

Wade Harrell of Lenoir City, Terence Hutton of Rutledg, Tyson Elliot of Boyd Buchanan, Mitch Brock of Marshall County, and Jeremy Raper of Sequoyah all shot 75's to finish tied for third and just two strokes behind Maynor for the lead. Fourteen other individuals finished below 80 after day one.

Goodpasture, led by Brandon Burris' 74 (35-39), finished with a team score of 313 to take a one-stroke lead over Lenoir City. Burris was one of seven that finished tied for second last year. Reise Kelly shot a 78 and Rob Clark shot a 79. Goodpasture finished as the runner-up at last year's tournament, falling to Kingston by six strokes.

Lenoir City was led by Wade Harrell's score of 75 (37-38). Justin Metzger and Luke Chill each shot a 79 as well. Chill also finished tied for second place at Montgomery Bell State Park last year.

Boyd-Buchanan is just four strokes behind Goodpasture as they posted a team score of 317 on day one. They were led by Tyson Elliot and Taylor Lewis, who shot 75 and 77 respectively.
